A Wallflower's Perks

by Chelsea Rae   May 12, 2005

Holding a hand that isn’t really there
She gazes out her window in a pathetic stare
Looking at the world she knew so much about
And knowing everyone’s actions without a doubt
A wallflower had its perks
She knows the drama and how it works
Quietly she stands around
Listening to every rumor and every sound
Her voice was soft so no one could hear
The deep secret she held in fear
Her room was the only place for escape
Where she could hide every scrape
Every cut and every bruise
Caused by her father with too much booze
Yet she disguised it well
She would go to school and never tell
And no one ever noticed because all she was
Was a wallflower that did not talk that’s all she does
A friend to herself and that’s all she had
Besides the frequent shadows and her writing pad
Writing her thoughts and emotions down
Her smile even looked like a frown
Many papers filled with poems and dreams
Her words she wrote replaced her screams
But even words could not save her sanity
From her dad and his profanity
She couldn’t live her life like this and she knew it
But could she make it through one more hit?
Her soul was tattered and so was she
Then the thoughts poured in of being free
And that was the goal she would achieve
To be free would be a big relieve
There was only one way to solve this
Suicide and she knew she wouldn’t be a miss… no one even knew she exist
Saying farewell to her writing pad
She knew it was the only thing that would be sad
She gripped the gun and said, “I hate you daddy”
This is what we call a poetic tragedy

Whoa! I liked this one A LOT! The flow and rhyme were great! I liked the title and the last two linest closed it perfectly! I might borrow the last line for a title. The title reminded me of a book I read... Great write!!
