A family apart

by Exquisite_Emily   May 21, 2005

A. “My Darling solider, in battle. (8)
B. We’ve been waiting so long for thy (9)
C. Darling, I can’t wait any more.” (8)
B. Whispered she while staring at the sky (9)

A. The children sat motionlessly staring
B. Waiting for their lost dad to arrive,
C. Leaves fell down on them slowly
B. For, the children hardly seemed alive.

A. His family at home all alone
B. Their faces drifted through his mind,
C. As bullets hit the ground around him.
His joy that he could no longer find.

A. Her children pestered where was father?
B. His face had left her long ago
C. Letters, they got but mail was slow.
B. To where he went, she would never know.

A. As the children drew to conclusions,
B. To where their long lost heroic dad went,
C. Their eyes fixed on the blue men,
B. Who marched through their town, not giving a cent.

A. The water trickled off the tent.
B. Commands around him were barked,
C To destroy the Union, and all their men!
B Their eyes were alive and sparked.
A. Her face turned to stone,
B. As union invaders took her fine jewels
C. Tears left her face damp,
B. She wished to damn those Union fools.

A shiny blue bullet sheered through his soft flesh,
Above the heart, missing it by a hair,
C. His life to soon be over, he made on last request,
B. Send love to his wife, from who he would always care.
