In the winter night

by Jenn   May 22, 2005

When daddy took off
and then mommy, too
I was left
alone
in the winter night

the coldness of the moon
matched that of my heart
and the snow merely resembled
the burning agony within
the bitter wind
whipping my face
it felt good to have discipline

when daddy took off
and then mommy, too
a winter night
was all that stayed
and I held the earth
in thanking
and I prayed
that no one would wake me from
the cold, burning, bitter
peace
