Simple Smile

by Mira   May 24, 2005

If ever should I forget
The simple gift you gave
On that day so fatefully grave
Silent ones with fears to hide
Quiet tears that must allay
On that dreadful, horrid day
Strike me down a thousand times
And leave me in remembrance
Of that simple smile of benevolence
And if ever I should cry
From lack of kindness or a friend
And, from lack, my soul needs mend
Let me remember that gentle smile
And frown no more with tears of pain
But take that warmth from long ago
And let it heal my soul anew
The smile in lieu
Of the pain of nothing
