Class of 2005

by Emily Lynn   May 26, 2005

We stand before you tonight
The class of 2005
Our hopes and dreams and goals
Are very much alive

Some of us are sad
And some are quite relieved
Our times together are over
As our diplomas are received

For the past seven years
This school has been my home
There are so many faces
I know as well as my own

My two best friends - Ady and Kels
I'll miss our girl's nights out
Our stupid jokes and heartfelt talks
Yall taught me what friendship is about

And who could forget
The guy we call Will
With his funny jokes
And his shiny "gold grill"

To my roomie, Liz,
Next year will be great
OSU better get ready
For these two babes!

To all my guy friends
I guess our time is done
No more hugging or flirting
Or begging me for gum

I can't mention all the people
Who hold a place in my heart
I cherish each and every one
Good luck on your new start

These past four years of high school
Have been the very best
We made new friends, met new people,
And put old friendships to the test

Freshman year was different
But it was so much fun
However, getting dumped into a trashcan
Isn't something I'd wish on anyone!

Sophomore year brought changes
New cars began to appear
As everyone, but me, it seemed
Got their driver's license that year

Junior year was a blast
With all the prom preparations
We worked hard to make the experience
Live up to the expectations

Senior year - where do I start?
There was the trip to Medieval Times
Our last Homecoming dance and Senior Prom
And, of course, scholarship deadlines

But now it is time to look to the future
Instead of gazing at what is gone
The sun is setting on this part of life
And tomorrow brings a new dawn

Our lives are just beginning
And our fate is ours to choose
We can't control the obstacles
But it's our choice to win or lose

Hard times will be ahead
You will just have to be strong
Don't lose faith and never quit
The good times will follow along

I would not be where I am today
Without the help from a person or two
My family deserves all the credit
For the person you see before you

To my best friend - my mother
I love you bigger than the sky
You have always been there for me
You taught me to set my dreams high

Dad, you are by far my biggest fan
Thank you for believing in me
You never once let me give up hope
No matter how upset I might be

Bubba, I've always looked up to you
You mean so much to me
You are the best big brother a girl could want
And I'm glad you belong to me

The time has come for us
The class of 2005
To leave behind the memories
And say all our goodbyes

I never could have imagined
How hard this day would be
To say goodbye to friends and peers
Who seem like my family

We haven't always gotten along;
We've had our share of fights
But overall we've made it through
To stand in front of you tonight

To the class of 2005, I congratulate you
On a job very well done
Your future is out there waiting...
Good luck, and have fun!!!

This was my actual Valedictorian Speech that I gave at our graduation... Please tell me what you think!

Hey you guys. I appreciate the comments. I'm glad yall liked my graduation speech. I put a lot of time into it, and it really meant a lot to me to be able to give it at our graduation. I don't mind that you borrow verses (if you didnt, i'm not talking about you), but I would appreciate it if you would at least comment and let me know. I wrote this especially for my senior class, and a lot of memories went into it. I'm glad you liked it.
