Finding our footing

by Emily Lynn   Jun 5, 2007

You were once my best friend,
The boy who held my heart.
Then you were the person
Who tore my life apart.

I wanted to hate you
I tried with all my might.
But I couldnt stop the dreams
That came to me each night.

It was harder than you know
To watch you every day
And know that I was alone
In every single way.

As the years went by
Our friendship fizzled down
Until all that was left of us
Were the ashes scattered round.

We became a memory,
A whispered story of loss.
The past was a fine line
That we didnt dare to cross.

But you reached across that line
And gave me a little tug.
You pulled me back into your life -
Your apologies embalmed me like a hug.

We are just regaining our footing
On this shaky friendship ground
But with you nearby, I know
My steps Ive almost found.
