Midnight Sky

by Stef   May 28, 2005

Midnight sky for only as far as the eye can see
A beautiful picture already, and you’re here with me
We came to watch the sun as it routinely falls into the sea
The sun set forever ago, and we still have yet to leave.

I’ve come to wonder what could possibly be wrong
When the stars shine so bright and I know that I belong
Yet you’re so sure that this forever won’t last that long
You seem to think that our perfect words don’t fit our song.

In your arms I wish upon every star that’s above my head
For you to take back all those words I wish you hadn’t said
And when I feel you breathing, I think of what lies ahead
And when you pull me closer I know our romance is not dead.

With faith in all we have tonight I let go of all my fears
For I will not waste this beautiful sky with eyes full of tears
And when we finally go tonight, I know I will remember us here
It may be my last memory but at least I’ll have it to hold near.

Precious pink sky for only as far at the eye can see
I awoke to dawn rising and you still lying beside me
Together we watch the sun rise over the dark blue sea
The sun set forever ago, and I know now it’s time to leave.

Grasping my hand tightly in yours, you lead me to your car
Climbing in beside you, I wish for one last falling star
For I only have these precious seconds while love is still ours
So I just keep your hand in mine and pray the drive is far.

As the trees fly quickly past the window, I relate it to time
Time is short and this I know, from the time when you were mine
I know we are a lost cause, and as you pull into the drive
I relive my one last memory of when everything was fine.

A beautiful goodbye lies on the very tip of your tongue
But I’m not ready to hear it yet, I’m still much too young
But I still brace myself for the fallout, and when it comes undone
I know that I’ll still love you, for you are my only one.

Midnight sky for as far as the eye can see, and stars attack
This beautiful picture in my hand, colours faded to black
I came for the sunset, but the originally beauty it held lacks
For the sun set forever ago, and you never came back.
