Mask of Smiles

by Kaye   May 29, 2005

With a tilt of the lips,
And a twinkle of the eyes,
She's smiling happily with joy.

You'd never think twice,
But deep down inside,
Lies a girl crying,
A tortured soul.

With no one to reach her,
With no one to care,
She's all by herself,
Alone, behind that mask of smiles.

She looks out at the world,
From behind sunny smiles,
Wishing someone would notice,
All the pain she truly feels.

But she knows better,
Knows that she should hide,
Better to put out a front,
Then reveal what's inside.

At least this way,
No one could hurt her,
No need for broken trust,
Or better yet,
Broken promises turned to lies.

So she'll look out at the world,
From behind her mask of smiles,
Pretend to live a perfect life,
And believe in her own lies.
When deep down inside,
She cries all alone,
With no one to love her,
With no one to stand by her side.
