Windows

They say
that eyes are the windows to the soul.
you can see me through my eyes.
thats what you think
you think you can tell
when I'm lying to you
because of my eyes.

but the eyes themselves lie.

tell me
if they were windows to my soul,
my broken, bruised, tattered soul,
wouldn't you have said something by now?

you would know.
you would know all my secrets.
all of my feelings
all of my everything.

but you don't.
because my eyes lie to you.

they're beautiful eyes
shielding the me that i don't trust you with.

shielding the me that only i know

my lying eyes,
they're a good thing.
they give you a false impression.
they make you think i'm ok
so that you don't poke and pry and probe.

so you won't burn with curiosity for the information.
and thats better for both of us.

so just see the beautiful blue eyes
forget that their shielding, protecting,
the vulnerable Leah beneath.
