Fireflies burning in the night
There is no more beautiful light
As shivering we lie
Hand and hand entwined,
Waiting for shooting stars.
In this moment we are children
Innocent sharing one blanket,
Excited, unable to sleep, Wide-eyed giddy with awe
At this rich world's great dance.
I want to pull you close, be your tide,
Sweep you into the soft warm shore of these arms.
In a side long glance I watch you as
Your eyes collect the starlight
'Til you yourself pulsate,
An earthbound luminary,
A splinter of star time.
I close my eyes and see you running wild,
The grasses rippling at your feet
As you dart through the night like a dancing flame.
And now I feel you fade, your hands slip away,
I feel the regions encroach the regions of my skin.
I want to cup your hand in mine
And keep this close fire to me forever.
I'm left only holding a wish, tonight
But I dream and pray
One night you'll crawl into my tent again
And we'll make the darkness glow
Like two fireflies.
