Truth Serum

by Nicholas   Jun 28, 2005

They say a drunk mans words are a sober mans thoughts
They say if your wasted you're not straight enough for lies
Yet I've lied while drunk and never been caught
The ONLY time it's too tough is as a man dies.

And so tonight, after dinner, after I blindfold you
I want you to ask any and every question on your mind
And I'll answer everyone of them completely true.
And, only afterward will you find

That the strained words of a dying man
Are the only ones with a guarantee
And that no matter how plastered the man
He can always answer falsly

So don't you dare cry on my convulsing chest
Here's exactly what I want you to do
Take this to heart and allow me to rest
My last muted words were "I love you..."

Great job on the wording and the word play. It makes you think some to and that is what all good poems should do in my opinion.
