I Only Want

by Noah Alyn   Jul 6, 2005

He’ll hold my hand tightly
He’ll whisper so soft
He’ll care for me gently
He’ll hurt me not

He’s all I need
He’s all I could want
If I call his name, you bet here he’ll be
Through my eyes, he’s all I can see

If I were a fish, he’d be my sea
If I were to sing, he’d be every note
If I asked, he’d dedicate to me all he’d wrote
And he’d read it all with glistening and comforting eyes

Anything I’d ask him, he’d do
Anything, but that doesn’t apply to me, too
It’s a deal with no contract,
A car without lease,
It’s the perfect guy…

But I don’t want him,
Why?

He’s the image of perfection
He’s all a girl could want
But somehow he doesn’t get me,
And I yearn for the less-perfect model
Sitting a bit farther away
But I can’t believe it could happen this way…

He’d do it all,
He’d climb a mountain,
He’d sift through sand for a single pebble…
But he’s not what I want,
No, he’s not what I want.

I only want someone whose smile
Will soften my heart syrupy;
Whose heartbeat I feel through mine;
Whose eyes I match my soul;
I’m in no want of perfect….
It’s not what I want.
