More than a Memory

by Tearful Poet   Jul 7, 2005

If you go to her
she'll enclose you
in that smile of hers,
but the fire in her eyes
will burn you up

If you ask for her love
she'll say that it's yours to take,
but nothing comes free;
the price is your heart
and she'll handle it with care
until the toxicity of her touch
melts it away

If you offer her your life
she'll take it
and she'll mend it
and she'll shape it
and she'll swallow the pieces
and it will become unrecognizable,
but you won't know the difference
because it feels so good

If you say 'I love you'
she'll hear the tremble in your voice
and then she'll say it back
because she knows it's safe
and you'll lock those words
in the part of your soul
that can't be found
and they'll grow
and they'll spread-
a delicious sickness
until you crumble for her love

If you remember her face
if you recall
her hands and lips
you'll turn inside-out
burn up
melt away
become unrecognizable
you'll crumble for her love
because she's more than a memory

Whoa...man this poem blew me away. I wish there was a voting option for "Amazing"... You captured how I'm sure so many people feel to watch someone they love fall for another. But the way you expressed it. the words you used, the feelings and emotions were so...so...true. VERY well done. Wow....
