Rusted Chains and Stormy Seas

I'm chained to a pole
in the dark of night
waiting to see my savior
the cold metal bites my skin
and soft voices whisper
their words bringing goosebumps to my pale flesh
i shall die now
there is no going back
the sky opens and rain pours down
drenching me in wet pain
i scream out but no one can hear me
my throat becomes raw
the moon is the only source of comfort that i can take
hoping it's hazy light will soothe the turmoil in my soul
the stream that passes below my feet yearns to swallow me
it hisses and sputters
the waters boiling and thrashing
the waves lap against my feet
feeling like thousands of needles stuck into my legs
where is the blood?
there it comes
in torrents down me
making small rivers of it's own
staining the water red
suddenly the chains break
rusted from the rain
i collapse into the freezing liquid
my breath is gone
stolen from my lungs
i want it to all end
save me someone please
and there it is a distant light
to far off for me to grab
but i still try
forcing my numb fingers to move
they close around the warm ball of warmth and happiness
and i find myself sprawled out on the grass
heaving and choking
then my eyes close
it was too late
