The Joker

The Joker

A breath without sympathy,
There's no good intention.
Your heart is truly dark,
And always headed in my direction.

It never failed you made me smile,
Though they were out numbered by tears.
Your sweet words causing butterflies,
But their wings got weak through the years.

You were the Joker we all knew,
Starting out so innocent.
Making fun and having a good time,
Sharing my feelings I now resent.

Your poems written as riddles,
Given to me to unscramble and define.
I guess I wasn't witty enough,
Witty enough to read between the lines.

I fell for your lushes words more than twice,
Each time growing stronger inside.
Maybe a little bitter towards you,
But I refused to let you know I cried.

You were the Joker we all knew,
Starting out so innocent.
Making fun and having a good time,
Sharing my feelings I now resent.

Being the Joker you played your cards well,
Too bad your luck ran out in our prime.
I've learned to deal with the cards I've been dealt,
I'm sorry to say...
But I got the last laugh this time.
