The Love

by Michael   Jul 18, 2005

My girlfriend was lovely,
I loved her so,
after three years,
I proposed, she said yes and got married.

Our honeymoon was lovely,
romantic, peaceful too.
Wish it would never end,
till death do us part.

Our first months back were wonderful,
telling stories and romantic dates,
but it slowly drifted away.

She stayed in bed,
complaining of pains and aches,
when I made meals,
she never came.

I never left her side, she barley ate,
called the doctor,
said was an incurable illness,
destruction was coming.

I clamped her cold, weary hands,
she slowly drifting away,
no words,
not even, “I love you...”

I buried her near the house, thinking her forever,
always said never leaving her side,
got locks, chains and threw away keys,
for the house was were I was meant to be.

I stayed in the house for several years,
people bringing food, but barley ate,
thinking of my wife,
burning, burning in my mind.

Late one night, I heard her voice,
a dream, it couldn’t be,
her voice echoed in hallways,
was she there?

More images came,
she stood in front of me,
screaming, yelling,
“I’m waiting for you.”

She was there every turn I looked,
soon disappeared,
then reappeared.

It couldn’t be a ghost,
they aren’t real,_|are they,
my mind is fleeting!

I spun in circle wondering,
“IS SHE THERE...OR THERE?”

“WHERE...WHERE...WHERE?!?!”

I grabbed for the entrance door,
my sanity was gone,
seeing the unseen.

Then, my heart broke,
into tiny pieces,
more to fit through an eye of a needle.

They said I died with insanity,
I say no,
heartbroken was the case,
but now I search,
in glorious heaven,
where is my wife?

My heart, which is very broken,
is numb with pain,
never, for eternity,
never finding her...again...

Your friend knows his/her poetry...enough to know that this is good.

Amazing, I esp. liked these lines..

    "thinking of my wife,
    burning, burning in my mind."

You spelled barely as "barley" a couple times...just a little spelling error...hope you don't mind me pointing these things out...

I at first thought it might be a pleasant poem...but you did a great job, again, even if you haven't had a happing ending yet.
