Home For Good

by Ashley Redden   Jul 24, 2005

If you look this man
Deep in his eyes
The truth really shows
Hes scared to death
As he says
"oh its nothing to worry about
Ill be okay
Just a few months over seas
And I'll be fine"
Makes em sound so brave and tough
But you can hear the fear
In his voice
As he speaks
His last few words in person
Next thing
We're getting letters
Of how scared he really is
And how terrible things are
And he cant wait to get back home
He wrote a letter to his dear old mom
As he only wished
He could see her sweet face again
And the letter read..

Dear Momma,
Its scary over here
And I just want to let you know
I'm doing fine
Just don't know if I'm gonna see
One day to the next
People dieing
People Killian
Watching friends die
Is a once in a life time thing
And one time is all i want to experience
Just in case
I don't get to see you like I wish
I wanna thank ya
For teaching me and
Raisin me
The way you did
If i had one wish in the world right now
I wish i could see your sweet face again
But I gotta go and I love you momma..

Letters came
Letters went
Time went by
But not sign of this soldier going home
He had a wife and 2 little kids
That he loved so much
He wrote a letter to them as well
And this is what it read...

Hey Hun,
Just a few more weeks of fighting
And my job will soon be done
I hope to make it home
And when I do
I'm never gonna let you go
I'm gonna stand tall by your side
How are you and the kids
Are y'all making it fine
Man this soldier life's
More than anything you can imagine
Baby I'm praying I wont leave this world
Before I make it home
Just a touch of your love
Will make everything alright again
But I gotta go
I don't have much time no more
Love you and the kids

And thats all that was said
Words went unspoken
Cause he said he didn't have time
The words ran through her mind
Over and over
Never heard another word
From him
Till the day
He knocked on their doorstep
As he told his wife
Your soldiers come home for good
