Doing What You Do Best

by Ashley Redden   Jul 24, 2005

Your morning call came
As you was off to your job
Your in the armed forces
And only 7 weeks left
You get called out for deploy
You're off across the seas
Never know when I'm gonna see my baby
And if I will again
A normal day as usual
Is how you look at this
But the things isn't gonna be
Like they use to
The nights are lonely without you
And knowing your in danger
I cant seem to sleep
Every letter you send
You tell me every things gonna be alright
And your soon gonna be home
Its like you don't have a worry in the world
Of what might or could happen
Everyday I get my hopes up
To find a letter in the mail
Telling me you're coming home
But instead
A couple days later
I find men at my doorstep
Giving me your dog-tags
And filling me with warmth
You said you wanted to stand for something
And you wanted to be somebody
I guess this is what you wanted
You left this world
Doing what you do best
And doing what you always wanted to do
I cry myself to sleep at night
Cause I miss you so much
But then a smile comes to my face
Cause I know
You're happy
And passed
Doing what you do best
For this crazy world you left behind
Just for freedom that America gave away
That our fore fathers once gave us
And we let go of
We're all proud of you
And all you did
Cause we knew you did everything you could
And passed
Doing what you do best
