The Hero Of My Life

by goot   Aug 17, 2005

I used to watch you,
every day in that house
and see how you sat,
and think of what you thought

as you sat with your hands folded
resting them on your forehead
and see your eyes closed
but not knowing the fragility of your mind

i now look back and think how old you looked
and how much you went through
i now understand why you thought
and i think i know what it was that haunted you memory

you were a war hero
and you lived a full life
you never told any one of your times away
so as not to pass on a burden

as a child i thought you as a king
as the strongest willed man
and never did i think of behaving bad
because i looked up to you

but now you are gone
to the heaven above
yet i still know you are here
you live on in your home

and to this day
i wonder about your life
and regret not listening to stories
that you could have told by the fire

but you never told stories
and i wish you did
and i still miss you
wish i knew more of you

i wish that i could have known
all there was to know
you were a man of mystery
and you were my hero

Awww, this poem is so sweet
    and sad...
    but good writing!
