A Time That Was

by David   Aug 20, 2005

Old scriptures of lust, forgotten and lost,
Buried by time, frozen in frost.
Taken from the times gone past,
Reveal to use; at time long last.

Ere the maidens and knights of kings,
Life was not, as beautiful, a thing.
Dark lies and lust plagued thy land.
All part of one, a devious plan.

For there once lived, a lady so vile,
In her land of deadly doom.
There she lurked, up in her tower,
Ever growing in dreadful power.

For only her heart was dark and dreary,
Her face and body, of unparallel beauty.
Her snow-white skin knew of no age.
Her long slowing gown of silken sage.

Raven dark hair, draped her shoulders.
There she sat, not ever older.
Waiting there, for a time to strike,
For hate was love, for all, alike.

Across the land yonder the hills,
Past the forest and green landfills.
A Kingdom thrived, of kings and queens.
A place of happiness one would deem.

Bright it may seem, and happy one saw.
But deep in thy chambers, lurked one flaw.
Weak and fragile, one would guess.
Though none knew too well, thy able princess.

She held the one, the heart of a prince.
Though the price for it grew ever since.
The love she had, the one she claimed.
Was the one the lady, also acclaimed?

But this she knew, and took a chance.
Not heeding much, a questioning glance.
She feared not the lady, and the power she had.
For her despite and power, were just as bad.

The time was ripe and the lady was done.
The power she had, the world she’d shun.
Condemned be her fault and cursed her power.
For now she had left, her forlorn tower.

Into the city she crept one night.
Ready to win, without a fight.
Faster she’d stride with much more haste.
For if she fail her life to be a waste.

Up the stairs, she sped with need.
Not paying much of cautious heed.
In the chamber she stalked, and drew.
Out a bag, of a deadly flu.

And in the sky the moon would loom.
Casting shadow, of a Kingdom’s doom.
Moonlight crept in silver beam,
A Kingdom at peace, one would deem.

And so she blew the tainted dust.
One converged of hate and lust.
So never more the princess would wake,
So never more of breathe should she take.

But fate that night was not on her side,
Even her magic, would not abide.
So the wind shifted and blew the dust away,
And the lady flew, she could not stay.

She stopped in mid-walk, and drew a smile.
A plan came to her, one just as vile.
She turned around, and chanted a curse.
This is what, she recited first,

“Princess Sweet, death just the same,
Loose shall thee in this lovely Game.
Close thy eyes, and never wake,
Your life tonight, I shall take.”

Drawing, again, her deathly power,
Remembering the time in her tower,
She raised her hands, and then she spoke,
But before she could the Princess awake.

“You vile witch!” the Princess declared.
But the lady ignored and did not cared.
“You my dear, will soon be dead,
Forever shall you lie in this bed!”

“You would not dare,” came a reply.
But she did not know, if she’d live or die.
The lady smiled, and quickly spoke,
“You’ll have died by midnight’s stroke.”

And there was a pause, heard all around,
As the moon’s light, danced on the ground.
“You will not win, in this game I play,”
The princess said, in a curtly way.

“I have the power, of love on my side,
The prince’s love, I have to confide.”
At this the lady grew mad and still.
Then she screamed a sound so shrill.

It was heard through out the night,
Giving all, a dreadful fright.
All the bells, thundered and boomed,
But all for them, things were doomed.

When they came to the princess’ chamber,
All was there, felt passing danger,
For there she was, lip apart,
A shiny dagger through her heart.

True to her heart, the lady spoke,
The princess was dead on midnight’s stroke.
Upon her bed, surrounded by night,
The vile lady was nowhere in sight.

As all stories have an ending,
This one, however, is still in pending,
Should in some way the princess awake?
The prince’s heart she would take?

Or should she stay dead, and never wake,
Leaving the prince for the lady to take?
I do not know, for the scriptures end here,
What ever happened shall remain unclear.
