Remember

How many of you can remember
When everything was fine?
When walking from class to class
You were all in a straight line.
How many of you can remember
Playing out in the school yard?
When boys and girls chasing each other
Didn't seem so hard.
How many of you can remember
The fun bike rides around the block?
And having time-outs for 10 minutes
Felt like you were watching a broken clock.
How many of you can remember
Walking down the street picking flowers?
And when falling down and scraping your knees
Could make you cry for hours.
As years go on you realize that
These memories tend to fade
You will soon start to forget
All the pictures you drew and cards you made.
You start to cry over broken hearts
And things people might say
You start to worry about the way you look
And who you might hang out with that day.
I can say I remember
How things used to be
When everything was so simple
When you always felt so free.
I can say I remember
When you did what was right
You didn't know the difference between love and like
And you didn't understand when your parents would fight.
For us who remember those times
Sometimes wish we could go back
But even though life can be so hard now
We've all learned so many things I know we would hate to lack.
