Who We Are (For the Depressed)

by Steve   Aug 24, 2005

I overheard someone on a cell phone say "people get annoyed by complaining and depression though", and it occurred to me how society always singles out those most vulnerable and nicest, and segregates them to be discriminated against. This is for all of you; the kids on drugs, the girls slitting their wrists, the people who cry themselves to sleep. Please comment and vote, and tell me if you agree.

Our writing
Our way of life
What it’s become
The conclusion
Is always the same
We are the lower class
In society
Defined by their standards
Or so they like to boast
But I could care less
You don’t know me
So how could you really tell
You have never walked in my shoes
So how could you really understand
Feel free to judge
If you are comfortable with that
Feel free to stop reading
If you are frightened of the truth
Run
If you have the urge to
Marginalize
If you find it easy
Go right ahead
And
Judge
Classify
Stereotype
You say
We are throwing away our lives
And I agree
We are
But you have never been
Never helped
Society’s never
Been kind
Never accepting
Just because you say
Your happiness
Is worth more than mine
Your life
More valuable than ours
Does not mean you are right
Because I tell you
We are as much a person
As you are
More human
Than you could ever be
But in the ocean
That society is
We are the garbage
To be ignored
Or to be thrown
There is no love
To be dredged from these
Polluted waters
Only our corpses
To be buried
Or to be hidden
But who do you blame
If you leave us
So exceptionally alone
That we stop treading
And at last
Drown
