Photo finish

by void.   Aug 25, 2005

Sip, then swill, now guzzle-
Water, I plead, and I puzzle;
If a drop of holy fluid may reach my muzzle.

I dream and I scream,
But I don't dare make a scene;
On revealing truth I prove none too keen.

Eyes, those piercing, soft orbs of brown,
Mix with the words erupting from your frown;
I can't trust my translation; I must turn around.

Then when I think it's all down,
I lose the beat.
The rhymes and lines you liked or you loathed
Turn tail and sound the retreat.

You think I'm steady,
You presume I'll stay,
But I don't really know that I'm ready
To do just what you say.

So I change, I warp,
And I turn face.
Now you see me, and now I'm gone;
I am both and I am also none-
It's a photo finish
Just to see who has won.
