Yankees of 2005

by Kat   Aug 30, 2005

Even though they started slow,
And you wanted them to get up and go.
They picked it up around mid-May,
And finally now they’re here to stay.

Starting pitching’s been a problem.
But now we have Randy Johnson.
Also in the rotation in Mike Mussina,
He helped make me a Yankee believer.

Over at First Tino Martinez holds strong,
Here into New York is where he belongs.
Robinson Cano’s a new face at Second,
A rookie that will prove himself in a minute.

A familiar veteran is still at Short,
Derek Jeter, a ten-year Yankee isn’t new to the sport.
Alex Rodriguez at third again this year,
With MVP numbers that all opponents fear.

Out in Left Matsui still plays,
Hasn’t missed one of over five-hundred games.
And Bernie Williams in Center.
Helps the game go far better.

Gary Sheffield in Right, also an MVP year,
His place in the clutch, his numbers have seared.
Jason Giambi’s our Designated Hitter.
His recent homers make the opponents games bitter.

Our starting catcher is Jorge Posada.
As long as he’s there, our pitchers throw harder.
The Yank’s closer is Mariono Rivera.
‘Mo’ is the center of this legendary era.

These are the Yankees of 2005.
Whether on the road or at home they thrive.
You may believe differently,
But to me they play perfectly.
