Where is God?

by Tainted Butterfly   Sep 15, 2005

"Where is God?" a seven year old boy had come to ask
His mother can't answer for her heart is filled with sorrow.
Shortly after the devastation of a the hurricane had passed
She's wonders if she can keep her family safe until tomorrow.

People are hoping that angels come to help those in need
Meanwhile bodies of the dead pile on the silent street.
People continue to succumb to an insanity of greed
Weeping follows from souls with no food to eat.

America watches from the safety of their home
Daily doses of gangs, the hungry, the horrible violence
They have no idea how scary it is to be alone
Among the chaos not hearing God's voice only silence.

No where to turn to no where to go
Officers take their lives for soul's release.
The pain that took them most will never know
But those that live on hope and pray the pain will cease.

People cling to what their life was before
For they can't phathom all that was lost.
A booming city that used to be is no more
Thousands of lives were altered to pay the cost.

"Where is God?" you might ask in this time of hell
As you are down praying on your knees
Wishing times were good and family was well
No worries of criminals doing as they please.

God is coming you can be rest assured
He has sent the help that the scared long for
Their prayers have been received and heard.
God will make himself known once more.

To the young ones in need and also those of old
Donations come and hearts open from closed mind
Food will fill the hungry, shelter will shield the cold
Humanity still exists and people can still be kind.

So where is God? He was always there
Helping his children go on and cope
From kindness of strangers who still care
To carry the undying message of hope.

**this poem is dedicated to the lives altered by Hurricane Katrina which struck on August 31, 2005 into the city of New Orleans. Many lives were lost, many lives were destroyed, many heroes came forth, many still are. Many ask "where is god?" God is there...Keep the faith and God Bless.
