In The Line Of Duty

by Brittany   Sep 28, 2005

Their family was used to...
Setting the table and he'd be late...
Mama worried...
Hoping she would see her husband again...
Then one night she set the table...
Fed the kids and put 'em to bed...
Sat anxiously and waited for her man...
Suddenly she heard a knock on the door...
She got up and went to the door...
As she opened it up slowly...
She could see that it wasn't her man...
It was another policeman...
He asked if he could come on in...
She said sure and invited him in...
He told her to have a seat...
She said no and just tell me what you need...
He said Ma'am...
" I was there when it happened... their was a hostage situation... took a little girl... she was crying for her mama... then your husband being the man that he is... tried to sneak in the back... I guess the man saw in the shadow... well anyway he turned around and shot... Shot your husband right in the heart... he was injured and by that time... we had time to get in and shoot the bad man... The last thing he told me was to take care of my wife and kids... tell them I love them and will be with them till the end... I might not be present in their lives in body... but I'll always be in their hearts... So ma'am I just gotta say your husband died in the line of duty...
As he tells her he watches her cry...
But remember if it wasn't for your husband a little girl would have died...
You see your husband died the best way he could... he died in the line of duty...
And he will always be remembered and cherished.

This is not a true story... I just really wanted to write something that maybe other familys are going through... Please comment it would mean a lot to me.

Well like I said before please comment on my poems then I will comment on yours
