They said he wouldnt make it, in this game that they called life,
They said that hed give up, when put through a little strife.
Through their judging eyes, they were blind and couldnt see,
The talent he possessed, and the man this boy could be.
This boy had grown up, in the middle of it all,
Living in the projects, sometimes sleeping in the hall.
He saw his share of violence, even saw his best friend shot,
He saw his share of dealers, and other kids all smoking pot.
He never went to sleep at night, without hearing a loud bang,
He couldnt turn a corner, and expect not to see a gang.
But despite his circumstances, and despite what people said,
The underdog prevailed, he didnt let them in his head.
This boy from the projects, proved the haters all wrong,
They couldnt bring him down, this boy was too strong.
They tried to destroy him, but he put them all to shame,
He proved he was a warrior, and life wasnt just a game.
He proved that it dont matter, who you are or what you got,
But look back with no regrets, on your battle that was fought.
