When October Comes

by Peter DeJesse   Oct 4, 2005

The air seems different
Smells fresh and sweet
Cooling off the summer sweat
And drying the moist heat

Leaves change color
To red, orange and yellow
Dry wind knocks them off
And piles them on the grass below

The time has changed
Sun still sets in the west
Much sooner than expected
It is Autumn at its best

Time for Carnivals and Fairs
Which brings us together at night
And toward the end of the month
We get ready for Halloween's fright

Spring is a very nice season
Makes everything brand new
However, Autumn's sweet smell
Seems to stick to me like glue

Autumn slowly cools us down
Summertime's heat is lost
Preparing all for the cold to come
From Winter's chilling frost

We hide inside from both the Summer heat
And the Winter cold that's bone-numbing
But after Summer comes the cooling Fall
And following Winter, the warm Spring is coming

You can not appreciate the cold
Unless you have experienced the heat
The reverse is also a true statement
God's seasons can't be beat

You brought back many memories with this write. I could actually smell the crisp air around me along with the grass, popcorn, cotton candy, pizza and fried dough. I can see the colors and hear the kids laughing and yelling and having fun on the rides at the fair.... I miss jumping into the piles of raked leaves and having them stuck to your clothes and hair. Ahhh Peter, you have painted such a beautiful picture with your words...... I love this write.

Your words painted a picture perfect scene of Autumn and it is such a serene and calming piece. Perfect!

Aww...this was a cute poem...you really brought out what we all are really missing when we just stay inside. It actually made me go outside and look at all the changes! Keep up the good work~Rach
