Cigarettes and Dying Lullabies

by Renee   Oct 18, 2005

And I'm making this last, like it's my last cigarette
cut the filter off, this is something I won't forget
I'm taking every bit of you in,
inhaling you into my dreams.

I'll take a -long- draw of my last puff,
now my visions tainted, well I guess that's love.
No, your arms aren't around me
but a scent is stale in my nose that will last till tomorrow.

And I'll tell you my dying wish, with smoke on my lips
"When I die, fill my respirator with this"
A little bit of smoke, and a lot of your perfume,
because that's all I need to get me through.

And you'll look at me like I'm crazy and exclaim:
"You've been smoking too much."
I'll shrug a tired "I know..." then demand another puff.
One more kiss from your lips and now I have a reason to live.

This is yet another wonderful write, I love the way you compare two completely different things and mix them into one subject. You're outstanding. Keep your head up, please. Always smile, and take care.
