War

by Matters   Oct 18, 2005

They meet at the battlefields
An asphalt sea with divots and cracks
Glaring through no eyes, they search
They penetrate the shimmering waves, preparing to fight back.

Waiting, waiting, wishing, praying
The opposite side will fire first
Fire flickers through both minds
Wanting to win, but expecting the worst.

The silent cold war wages strong on
Until the day is close to done
They stare into the mist forever
When sunlight left is none.

They retreat inside, every night
Both sides camping on the plain
Preparing for the battle start
Waiting, waiting for it to begin again.

Day after day, month after month
Until one side, tired of the bore
Launches one tiny bomb into the air
The respond; an uproar.

The opposite side responds quickly
Omitting numerous bombs towards the sea
While the other side returns with gusto
Their army outnumbers, and the others flee.

The winning side claims their land
Proud of their valiant success
The fired only a single bomb
And the others never progressed.

And as the army settles in
Prepared now only for fun
They rest their minds, knowing they,
The dandelions beat the grass and won.
