Verse and prose

by libby   Oct 29, 2005

Writing these days
does not have to be profound.
Nothing is expected of me.
These words that I write,
dismissed,
bad teenage poetry.
Each girl fancies herself an author.
Writers these days
do not have to use big words.
Words become endangered and then
extinct,
because ours is a society of instant gratification.
We hate dictionaries.
Readers these days
do not have to think.
Ideas laid out prettily on a page,
simple,
not too deep or complex.
We like it that way.
