The messenger

by Madison   Dec 13, 2003

The candle stick flickered,
As the cool air drew near,
Waiting for my husband dear,
He loves his country like he loves me,
He would do anything to protect his family.

As I gaze out the window,
Into the dark winter night,
I come across something galloping toward me,
This gave me quite a fight.

Someone upon a horseback,
It was plain as can be,
But could it be my beloved,
That has come home to spend Christmas with me?

As the figure drew closer,
And I could make out the face.
My hearts reaction, filled with disgrace.

For it was no my dear husband,
Returning from the war,
Instead a Red Cross maid,
Waiting at my door

As I opened the door,
And looked at her reaction on her face,
I knew right there my life would never be a happy place

As she told me the news,
My eyes filled with tears,
After all those years,
I lost my beloved dear.

Shot in the head,
Told there was no pain.
Is this how other country’s
Get the power that they gain?

By taking loved ones life’s,
Right under their eyes,
I can only imagine him, slowly die.

She handed me a letter,
That never got sent,
Then she was on her way,
Mumbled something,
Not sure what she meant.

“My dearest wife,
The love of my life,
Things aren’t looking to good on the other side.
Men are dying by the minute,
And soon it will be me,
Though you have something the other wife’s don’t,
Found memories.

When you look at the night sky,
Point out a star,
That is me, admiring you from afar.
So have no fear my lo I am now in a place up above,
So have no fear my wife,
For I will always be near,
I’m now in a place high above,
Please shed no more tears.

Please, i love comments, so write them please
