I Should Have Known

Every day the pain goes on
Ripping me apart and letting me stand alone
No one seems to understand
I just regret this - I should have known

When I was down, you comforted me
When I was sad, I knew you cared
But now I'm sitting here crying
And I know you won't be there

I should have known this would happen
As it has many times before
They all just leave me behind
Crying on the floor

If life was measured by tears
Then I would be so old
Because I've cried so many tears
My heart is starting to turn cold

I need someone to help me
Someone who will be real, not fake
Someone who will love me and comfort me
Who won't be a mistake

As long as they don't leave me
Screaming in my mind
Telling myself to live
For the very last time

They have to hold me in their arms
And whisper words that are true
So I don't die inside
And so that I will be renewed

But if that persons hurts me
I will surely live no more
Because I should have known
The last time I was left crying and sore
