The "D" Word

The "D" word can be a very Strong word.
It can be a good thing at times and can fix some problems;
And other times, it can destroy a family, only to create more.

This word is threatened very often in my family.
Although it would probably prove to be a good thing for my parents,
It would also prove to be a nightmare for my brother and I.

The "D" word can also be a hard thing to deal with.
It can make a person mentally and emotionally stronger,
But it can also do damage to those who aren't emotionally ready for the change(s) it might call for.

Even though this word is only threatened in my family and not acted upon,
It still sends shivers down my spine whenever I think about it;
Because I know that whenever this word does take place, I won't be emotionally ready for the changes it will bring about.

I count my blessings every time my parents decide against it.
And though this adds to my tally marks of the success of my parents,
It also predicts for another time that the "D" word will be brought up again.
