It's Not About

And it's not about the time we spent together
Or how much we cared
It's not even about the lies
Or the moments we shared

It's not even about the smiles
Or the best times we had
It's not about the past
Or everything we did to make each other mad

It's not even about how much we hid
Or how many lies we told
It's not even about those tears
Or the jokes that got old

It's not even about those dreams
Or the times we held each other's hand
It's not about the grudges
And times we didn't understand

It's not about the secrets
Or the things we held so dear
It's not about sitting next to each other
Or grinning from ear to ear

It's not about the memories
Or the box of keep sakes
It's not even about the scenes
Or the pictures that we take

It's not about the label
Or the mountain of trust
It's not about the temptations
Or the moments starting to rust

It's not about the old times
Or the "back in the days"
It's not about when we were stupid
Or when everything went our way

It's not about the happiness
Or the sad times we went through
It's not about the emotions
Or the things we wish we could do

It's about so much more
Than what we thought
It's about all those lessons
Life has so harshly taught

Sure they weren't easy
And some of it took a lot to get through
But because of all those mistakes
In the end we learned something too
