Sweet Stranger

by Truest Lies   Nov 28, 2005

She was dressed all in gray,
On that cold, dreary day,
Wrapped in a coat and a scarf.
Her clothes matched her eyes,
And set off her hair,
But in beauty she looked no less sad.

She looked at the rails,
Waiting for the train,
Whether to jump or not,
Certainly crossed her mind,
Whether to jump right now,
And leave it all behind.

She heard the train whistling,
As it made its way to the station,
And she didn't cry,
No tears for her,
As all she wanted to do was die.

She didn't flinch,
For a single instant,
She didn't shed a single tear,
She just cast away every fear,
And jumped---

A pair of arms wrapped around her waist,
And dragged her away,
Just as the train came thundering in,
To rest at a stop.

She opened her eyes briefly,
And wondered how her saddened heart,
Could so suddenly smile,
Even as it fell apart.

"Sweet stranger let me go,"
She said to the man.
All he did was smile, even as he said "No."

The girl just raised a hand,
Then let it fall limply to her side,
And when she finally woke up,
There was no sweet stranger by her side.

Oh.. this gives me the goosebumps. What can I say? I think this is almost perfect. The first few stanzas were filled with so much sorrows and pain. Until the pair of arms came, it's like a dream, a modern fairytale but sadly it ended with just a dream. Very sad, yes, very indeed.
