My angel was you

I walked this lonely earth
in darkness rather than light
i had forgotten happiness
and dwelt on only strife

swallowed up by satan
ravaged by the earth
dreading every breath
regretting my own birth

but an angel was sent
that angel; he was you
and with those simple words
you helped to lead me through

you directed me down a path
i had not thought to take
and without even knowing it
a decision you helped me make

i chose the lord our God
and felt his saving grace
and through his lovingkindness
he has brought me to this place

This place of eternal love
and an everlasting peace
his compassions new each morning
In him; My hope will never cease
