Balloon

by McCall   Dec 2, 2005

One day I saw a balloon
It glided toward me
On a sea of warm air.
I opened my hand to it
But it missed my grasp and
Kept going on its
Journey to
No where.

There was a day I had a balloon
Until it floated away
Like a dream
Great and vivid when you have it
Slowly fading away when you begin to lose it,
Gone when you
Let go.

My great red cloud balloon soared away
Swaying gently as
A song
That
Will fly away,
A song today,
A memory tomorrow.

Once I had a balloon
It drifted away like a schooner
Lost at sea
No captain to
Guide it
No crew to
Make it sail.

I don’t want it back
Because I know it has the
Wind in its red sails
The sun to its round face
And a tail to tow
So that one day
Some other girl
Will find it too.
