All The While The Little Girl Cries

by Liz   Dec 10, 2005

She cowers at night,
Because that is when he came.
Can you hear her crying?
Do you hear muffled sobs coming from under the pillow?
All the while the little girl inside her cries.

Do you notice how she withdrew herself from the world?
A perfect picture of solitude.
What happened to the girl that just smiled because?
She saw cracks in perfection, in herself.
She laughed during the day,
Because pretending, was the only way she was able to avoid her pain.
But it was all just pretending.
All the while the little girl inside her cries.

In an attempt to skip over her grief,
She tapped into her pain.
All the while the little girl inside her cries.

Her self-identity was consumed by the man of the night.
Her innocence was stolen,
She'll never be the same.
It is all about him now.
All the while the little girl inside her cries.

She can't even look at herself in the mirror without remembering
So she deprives herself of food because
That is the only way she may become perfect.
All the while the little girl inside her cries.

She believes that she is unworthy of love.
She strives to make the grade,
But when she falls up short of these unattainable goals,
She just continues to improve herself into oblivion,
Because she believes that invisibility is true perfection.
All while the little girl inside her cries.

The little girl inside her, cries for help.
She takes pills, to try to rid herself of pain,
Hoping that the little girl inside her will die,
But the next day she wakes up just the same,
Feeling broken, just in a different place.
The little girl inside her did not die.
The little girl inside her continues to cry, while the woman lives.

Great poem. I hope the "little girl" is ok.
