Christmas in the real world

by Lady Vengeance   Dec 20, 2005

No one sees the shining star
And follows it to Christ
No need to pray at dinnertime
Christmas has been priced

What were the treasures of wise men
Are now replaced with toys
And shepherds crooks become candy
For all the girls and boys

The star that shone above Jesus
Now shines atop a tree
And children ask for useless things
As they sit on Santa’s knee

A gathering of relatives
Just like in Bethlehem
Biscuits for the ladies
And tools for all the men

Symbols of the birth of Christ,
Evolve in Christmas cheer
But do we still honour the cause
And keep our faith still near?
