Trapped under the old Oak Tree

by Mallory Vn   Dec 22, 2005

Something happened....

You came around one chilled stormy night
Offered me your hand as i shook hard with fright
Who is this knight i have never before seen
And why is he helping little old me

You pulled me up close to your eyes
I could not see through your darkened disguise
then, a whisper to my ear
Don't threat young one, you have nothing to fear

Run into the shelter the storm soon will hit
He carried me under his arm, we were a perfect fit
With a devastating boom, the ground did quake
We both fell, my fall he did break

Get up i screamed, please get up now
But he didn't speak he couldn't move somehow
As i looked to his foot this sight i did see
His leg was twisted and broke under the old Oak Tree

Four hours passed and i sat with this man
Under the sparkling sky, he gave me his pale hand
He spoke words of wisdom
Of his youth and his life of freedom

One more hour passed and the man did not speak
I shook him gently, but i couldn't budge his feet
I looked at this man, as he closed his eyes
And the tears ran down my cheek as the old man died.

Don't take for granted what people say or do
You never know who will be there when it matters most to you.
