A Homeless Christmas

by Ixora   Dec 23, 2005

You’ll never be alone again
Not when winter has prepared
A time for people to come together
A time when someone cared

A time when they don’t see you as homeless
They don’t see him as a drunk
They don’t see her as a self inflicting disorder
And you don’t have to sleep in the back of a trunk

One day when someone cares
Even if it’s for selfish reasons
Many people hate winter
But to you it’s the best of seasons

Though it’s cold and your body’s numb
For a second someone will give you food
And never know how much it meant
For you to forget just how far you’re screwed

A little child might give you their coat
And you’ll hide the tears in your eyes
Knowing from past experiences
No one cares for your cries

And you’ll harden up again
Bring the walls up way high
Pride will become your strength again
And you’ll tell the little kid to die

Throwing back the coat they gave you
Throwing back the love they didn’t want to give
In the end you know you’re alone
Because no one wants to forgive

You stare for a while at the spot
Where innocence just stood
Block the memories away with a sigh
And slowly pull up your hood

Start walking through the inches of snow
Completely oblivious to the pain
Your body’s grown stronger now
It’s easier when you’ve gone insane
And you smile at the bystanders
Almost wishing to go back home
To apologize to your parents for things you didn’t do
But these are your streets to roam

The sidewalks cracked and dirty face
Glances up from underneath your feet
The snow perfectly destroying
Your beautiful concrete

And you frown and how ironic it is
That you are so much the same
Both hidden and destroyed
By something you became

And suddenly a lady walks by
But instead of staring she gives you a smile
She offers you her coffee
And asks if you want to walk with her awhile

You give her a dirty look
The one that usually scares them away
And are surprised by her hug
And just how long you began to stay

Astonished that god let you meet an angel
On Christmas, what a consent
For a homeless winter girl
To get such a wonderful Christmas present

Yeah, it does have a sense of positivity in it! I thought it was sad...because it's true. But sometimes (most of the time) the story doesn't have a happy ending.
