With Eden At Our Feet / No Questions Asked (Redone)

by erratic hippie   Dec 27, 2005

[This is actually a quote i intended to submit, but site regulations said it was too long...]

It's a lesson still waiting to be learned: history has been plagued with enough strife and bloodshed to permanently stain our green earth red....but new life never stops to question this world's worth....that is mother nature's promise - new hope

Flowers exist to share this with us, in their perfume and their beauty...and still we pick them, greedily taking what was meant for all to enjoy only to throw them aside....yet more will continue to stem from their remains....until we decide to leave them be, and Eden is finally given room to grow

now here's a poem inspired by that very quote ^_^" hehe..talk about tooting my own horn

No Questions Asked

It's a lesson still waiting to be learned:
History is plagued with imbalance,
Where no one questions the food chain,
And colour-blindness is a virtue,
Since apathy translates into peace.

We chase the ashes of our ancestors
And echo their weary requiems.
Yet flowers still stem from stone,
Never doubting this world's worth,
Holding no memory and no grudge.

We are not children of this earth.
We are both aliment and ailment.
And time is a carbon copy of itself,
Overlooking the dire anticlimax
Where Eden is finally given room to grow.

It was for a Lit assignment where we had to write a letter to a future generation. The concept of history repeating itself is one that raises the question of whether or not we truly learn from our mistakes – choosing to hold grudges rather than wipe the slate clean. So in this piece, I urge mankind to take a lesson from Mother Nature, who persists to grow even after everything has been paved over. And nature never looks back in anger (i know, aidyn, i know); it only tries to recreate the Eden we keep destroying. So my advice was to forget everything and put a stop to the incessant replay of age-old mistakes.
