Zack

You were lonely in your first week,
but we tried to make friends with you, or so to speak.
Others made fun, but they were wrong.
You wouldn't be here very long.

We said good-bye early that Friday.
We didn't know it would work in more than one way.
Late on Sunday, I found out
that you were gone without a doubt.

Your family moved here to protect you from the past.
They didn't know how little that would last.
You followed your dad to work that day
not knowing what was coming your way.

Now, I have your obituary hanging on my wall
to let you know I haven't forgotten you at all.
As we're coming up on the anniversary of you death,
I find it difficult to catch a breath.

I write this poem to show you respect.
Also, on you short life, I would like to reflect.
One day, again I'll see you, I know,
but for now I'll just ask God why you had to go.

Zackery died on January 20, 2003. He was 12 years old.

Very Beautiful, it's hard to lose someone that you care so mych about. I lost a cousin to murder 3 years ago and Jan. 16th. So i'm still dealing with it. I loved your poem. Keep writing.
