Listen

by enfant du tordu chagrin   Jan 9, 2006

I sometimes feel a cynic
for I have no belief
In the world's goodness
it seems hidden underneath

I have no faith or loyalty
for any high ideals
For below i see turning
greed and it's petty wheels

Everywhere I turn it seems
I see greed and lust
Spawning pain and sorrow
destroying hope and trust

In the way countries are run
in the actions of the masses
Sometimes it seems this must be
Just the way life passes

But why is it then, often
I see such hope and joy
Why does the world not corrupt
That happy little boy?

Then it is I realize
That true good does appear
And all we need to let it out
Is to truly hear

To let ourselves envision
Each component part
Distance the big picture
And listen to our heart
