This is Not Goodbye (poem)

by Ian Costello   Feb 16, 2006

(To the one person I will truly miss when my time comes)

When I journey down Pennsylvania way,
That is not goodbye,
A chapter new yes that's true,
But this is not the end,
A new beginning of our love,
Not a trial of devotion,
What matter is time and distance?
Hearts unseparated in mind live forever together.

When I travel down that old south road,
You are on my mind,
A manifestation of habit, irreversible,
Your reflection on every passing car,
Each road sign spells out your name,
But carries me farther away.

When I journey down Pennsylvania way,
That is not goodbye,
For goodbyes are used in terms of uncertainty,
Certain is my love that I shall return,
To gaze into those eyes they engage me so,
To run my fingers through those delicious tresses,
To know you in a way completely new.

Our reunion will be ever on my mind,
A lullaby that can't lull me to slumber,
Restless weeks will pass, yet drag,
This making our reunification that more the sweeter.

When I journey down Pennsylvania way,
That is not goodbye,
Remember this my dear, remember it well:
It's not the time that you spent,
But how you spent it with the ones you love.
Not the time that I spent,
But how I spent it with you.
