The Girl I See Is Me.

by Ashley   Feb 28, 2006

I look in the mirror.
What do I see?
I see a sixteen year old girl
Who looks younger than that,
But her past shows a missing childhood,
So she tries to relive it
When she experiences something new.
I see a girl with rumpled hair
From all of her tossing and turning.
The dark circles and redness
Around her eyes
Seem to tell the story.
I see flaws.
Some of them make-up can hide,
Others that could only be healed
By the love of another
Which has not yet come.
I see a tough, determined face
That tries to block away evil
But her eyes show
The pain within
I see a destroyed soul,
Who has been hurt by another.
What caused this destruction?
It's easy to see,
For the pieces of her broken heart
Lay silently at her feet.
Some call this girl pretty.
As I look at her,
I only see why most others hate this face.
If only they knew
What she spent her days doing,
What her deepest wishes were...
I see a girl who's lost
More than she's gained,
And when I see these things,
It saddens me
That the girl I see
Is me.
