Sleep

Who said I can't sleep
With my eyes wide open
In my bed I am safe
From the people outside my door.

Dreams are secure,
Nothing can awake me
Bring me back to this world
From a place I prefer to be.

Suddenly a sound
Like a shout or scream
Gets past the barriers
Straight into my brain

And when I look aside
I see the alarm-clock alive
Reminding me so kindly
That a new day has started
