Ugly

by Nora   Mar 4, 2006

*I'm really proud of this one. I had to do a literacy portfolio on To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and there was a requirement for an original poem that was inspired by the events that took place in the story.

November 5, 2005

Fear stows an iron fist
To tear you from your grave
Lacing those fingers is a tired whip
Loosening in the fray

Color only makes you blind
If pigment is all that you see
Choose to paint a deeper light
You'll find all you wanted to bury.

The kings of the highest pride their pose
As they throw away their dirty laundry
Hypocrites and stale judgement
Their prejudice salivates

We're all as innocent as a bloody hand
Dirty and influenced
Society's fools and fear's fools
We crave a timeline to plot our freedom

When the ugly doesn't raid anymore...

When the ugly doesn't raid...

*This poem is also up for an oppurtunity to be used for a skit at my school. :)

    "Color only makes you blind

That's some powerful lines. I'm still in awe.

"We're all as innocent as a bloody hand"

I absolutely love this line! It looks so simple, but it'd took me forever to even come up wityh a line as power as that one.

I love this poem, makes me wonder what the heck "To Kill A Mocking Bird" is about.

Glad to have you back, Missy.
