What Did You Think?

by Laura   Mar 7, 2006

Did you think you could walk in and out of my life whenever you want?
Each new sexual conquest was another woman you used to flaunt
Forgetting all the promises in the past that you made
Never knowing in the end you would end up being played

Assumed no matter what I would always be there for you
But then over time when we were apart my self-esteem grew
And I realized together we were going nowhere
I need to find someone with whom my life I can share

Too many times we tried to make our relationship work
All we ever did was successfully drive each other berserk
So I retreated and found comfort in another who could understand my pain
He became my savior and kept me everyday from going insane

For before him I always felt like bringing my life to an end
Especially seeing you out on the town with a new girlfriend
Each time you came crawling back I would take you in
No more for now I am ready for my new life to begin

The last time you returned and acted like we had never parted
Staying strong I told you never again would I be left broken hearted
In your apologies you were sincere and I could sense true remorse
But it was all too late for my life was started on a different course

Moving hard is one of the hardest things for me to have done, and you expressed really great an image of growing strength and hope. Don't let those who hurt you keep you down.

Wonderful writing!! Hope shining through in this poem... You should never go back once you've moved on. Really enjoyed this one, it flowed quite nicely I thought :)
